Yoga and Hiking

Samos is a small but versatile Greek island. It is one of the most pristine and unspoiled holiday destinations in the Mediterranean.
In May  you can enjoy the nature and tranquility in beautiful walks. The temperature is pleasant, there are many flowering plants and the island is green. The alternation between sea, mountains and forest makes Samos into an attractive holiday island.
Especially the Nightingale Valley is a paradise for hikers. With a little luck you can hear the nightingale sing here before dawn.

The Nightingale Valley lies on the north side of Samos. From the village of Agios Konstantinos you can wander into the green hilly and mountainous backland. The walks of MArjaaNi go through unique landscapes and along cold mountain streams with crystal clear water. They also go through gorges, past beautiful orchards and hillsides with vines. Along the way you’ll be treated to the most stunning views. In the small mountain villages you will go along monasteries and churches.
At one of the welcoming taverns in the authentic Greek villages Vourliotes, Manolates, Stavrinides or Ambelos one can enjoy a delicious salad, a fresh orange juice or a more elaborate meal.
Hiking here in spring or fall is really enjoying.

MArjaaNi works as hikingguide and yoga instructor for Frosch Sportreisen, a German Trade Organisation aimed at sporty holidays. You can take a look at their website.

Besides this  MArjaaNi offers every week a hike, during the summer months (from half of June till the half of September). One week it goes to the mountain village Vourliotes and the other week we climb up to the artist village Manolates. Please contact her for more information.

Additionally MArjaaNi organizes her own week full of yoga and hiking. During this week we stay in Villa Kambos, located on the green north coast of Samos.

The hotel is situated in gorgeous rolling countryside near the sea, surrounded by a breathtakingly beautiful garden.
The Greek-style villa has 10 atmospheric rooms and one luxury suite.
Start the day with breakfast on our special outdoor terrace, shaded by lovely almond trees.
Our delicious breakfasts consist of home-made pastries and jams, creamy Greek yoghurt and honey, and delicious fruit picked straight from our garden.

Villa Kambos is tucked away in vast green surroundings, perfect for hiking and biking. Stunningly beautiful walks can be enjoyed right from our doorstep.
The beach is a mere 5-minute walk away.

Regular bus services operate from the hotel to nearby villages and Samos Town.
Enjoy an evening meal in the nearby village of Agios Konstantinos, which is blessed with a variety of cosy sea-side tavernas, stretched out along the boulevard.

The traditional-styled rooms of Villa Kambos have large balconies with panoramic views of the azure-blue sea and the mountains with their beautiful green vegetation.
All the rooms are air-conditioned and equipped with a shower/toilet, a fridge, Wi-Fi connection and television.

Every morning (except on the free day and the day of departure), we start with Hatha Yoga. The lessons consist of sun salutations, asanas, pranayama and meditation.

In total we will make four light to medium hikes of 8-13 kilometers. The other days are free to spend or you can book an extra walk (at extra cost). The walks are suitable for anyone with a good condition. Good (ankle) boots are recommended. During the hikes we will perform some breathing- and/or energetic exercises.

The hiking program is as follows (subject to change):

Day 1
Arrival. Time to take a rest and to explore the area.

Day 2
This day we start not too difficult and we walk from the hotel to the sources of Pnaka. We come through country lanes and footpaths ( “monopathi”) along olive groves and woods.
At the descend to the coast, we arrive to Tsabou Beach where we can drink a fresh orange juice or a coffee. And from there we go on a goat trail (still daily used by the goats) and the beach back to the hotel.

Day 3
The third day we walk through the Nightingale Valley, along the fast-flowing river Kakorema that we have to cross several times. Then we climb through peaceful vineyards and olive groves to the artists’ village of Manolates. We can have lunch at Loukas, while enjoying the breathtaking views. After visiting the village with its cozy shops we again descend towards the coast and the hotel.

Day 4
This day is completely free. It is possible to rent a car or scooter and explore the island.

Day 5
The walk today is the longest and possibly the toughest of the week. We travel with a bus or taxi to Kokkari from where we climb through a beautiful old path up to the oldest monastery of Samos, called Moni Vronda. In the cosy mountain village Vourliotes we can eat and/or drink something on the village square at the tavern of Eleni and Diamantus.
Then we descend through forest and olive fields back to the hotel .

Day 6

The walk takes us today to the traditional mountain villages of Ambelos and Stavrinides.
At the tavern in Stavrinides (with amazing views), we sit between the local Greeks. It is a varied walk along donkey trails and country roads. The descent from Stavrinides is going through a tranquil forest. Down at the coast in Agios Konstantinos we can enjoy an ice cream, made by the best pastry chef of Samos.

Day 7
After the yoga session in the morning this day is free to spend.

Day 8
Departure or possibility to extend the stay in the hotel.
